A Little Mamma Background

My Mama was born and raised in a small town in Texas.  She fell in love with my Dad when she was 16, married him at 20, and they moved to Dallas at 21.  A few years later, with the excess grocery money that my Mama had secretly stashed in her chest of drawers, my parents opened a record store they called Sound Warehouse.  Over the next 20 years, they grew Sound Warehouse into a national record chain with over 145 stores.  Dad sold Sound Warehouse for top dollar in 1986ish after hearing about an up and coming technology where people could purchase and download music using their computer’s internet connection.

My parents worked for every penny they have- no handouts, no favors- just a good idea mixed with blood, sweat and tears.  Today,  my Mama is part Country Mouse, part City Mouse.  She’s the socialite who isn’t afraid to raise her hand and announce that the Emperor is naked.  My parents live in a fabulous home in Dallas’s finest neighborhood- and they deserve every square foot of it.

My Mama is a wicked card player, an avid horsewoman, and a die-hard Dallas Cowboys Fan.  She’s smart as a whip, a brilliant fundraiser, and has flawless taste.  My Mama is a velvet hammer- she’ll tell you like it is, but she’ll hug you as she says it.  Mama adheres to the steadfast rule that you can say anything about anybody as long as you follow it with a “bless her heart.”

“She’s so fat, bless her heart.”

Mama isn’t a bit afraid to laugh at herself (which she is forced to do quite often since she’s can be a real dingbat,) and she isn’t afraid to point out the funny things about other people and laugh at them, either.  She is frugal with her pennies, but shares her millions with those who are in need.   Especially children in need.
